First Place
Guzialia Reed
Japan
Artist Statement: This is one of my favorite pieces. Here I tried to combine different types of materials and make the piece look modern and bold. I think I executed that challenge—the colors look bright, the piece still has it vintage touch, and it turned out very modern and edgy.
Second Place
Laura McCabe
Stonington, CT, USA
Artist Statement: The idea to do this necklace came from a visit to the Victoria and Albert Museum in London. The source of inspiration was a 17th-century gold, enamel and pearl mayoral chain. The elements of the original chain sparked the idea of reinterpreting the basic component shapes and applying the mathematics of bead weaving to the construction process.
